The Borough of Hanover maintains 3 sources of water to meet the needs of a growing community. Sheppard-Myers Dam was constructed in 1932 and has a capacity of 190,400,000 gallons. Long Arm Dam was constructed in 1964 with a capacity of 1,659,400,000 gallons. The Slagles Run Pump Station pumps water discharged from the Vulcan Stone Quarry and flows from Slagle Run.

Waste water treatment is done with a 4.5 MGD tertiary plant serving Hanover Borough, Conewago Township, McSherrystown Borough and part of Penn Township, or a total population of approximately 27,000.

Water treatment is handled with a 11.0 MGD plant serving Hanover Borough, Conewago Township, Penn Township, McSherrystown Borough and West Manheim Borough Water Company as a bulk customer soon to be a York Water Company customer. The distribution system consists of 2 finished water reservoirs containing approximately 13,000,000 gallons finished water, 2 elevated water tanks containing 750,000 gallons finished water, 175 miles of water mains ranging in size from 4" to 20" diameter, 14,120 service connections and 833 fire hydrants. The Distribution system serves Hanover Borough, Penn Township, McSherrystown Borough and Conewago Township. Customers use approximately 5,000,000 gallons per day.
