The Hanover Fire Museum was established in 1980. It was formed as a result of the closing of 2 stations - Hanover Fire Company #1 and Eagle Fire Company #2 - and combining them into one building.Image of Silsby steamer

Each volunteer fire company had its own collection of fire memorabilia and apparatus. The companies expressed an interest to Borough Council in preserving their history. When Council had the new Central Station at Wirt Park designed, they included a room to be used to house a museum. The museum is climate controlled with its own burglary and fire alarms.

Due to size limitations, the museum contains the following 3 pieces of apparatus.

  • 1882 Silsby Steamer 550 GRM
  • 1830 circa 2 cylinder piston hand pumper ex Baltimore, MD
  • 1770 circa Nushem grinder hand engine

The museum also houses a working 1911 Gamewell Alarm Board and various small pieces of fire memorabilia. From time to time Interior of fire museumnew pieces of fire memorabilia are obtained by donations from area residents and visitors. The museum is staffed by our career duty firefighters and the museum hours are from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily.
